With the advent of 2026, we celebrate a full year as Joy Squared Design. Our growth to a 20-person practice last year brought new energy and opportunity. Some of the highlights include:

A Few of our New Projects:

New Construction/ Mixed Use: 190 Dudley (Madison Park Development Corporation)
A significant new construction project (~65 units, mixed-use, Passive House) that expands the firm’s relationship with MPDC, and will bring added vitality to this historic Nubian Square.

Renovation/ Multi-Family Housing: Fields Corner CDC
A major rehab of six buildings/ 77 units for Fields Corner CDC that will include extensive envelope and structural repair, energy efficient building systems, and renovated kitchens and bathrooms.

Adaptive Reuse/ Veteran’s Housing: Clear Path for Veterans
The adaptive reuse of a former convent and chapel into ~22 units of permanent supportive housing for Veterans.

Supportive Housing/ Office Interiors: Somerville Homeless Coalition
Two projects including new SHC office space, and a new shelter, continuing the firm’s social impact work.

New Client/ Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services: DDS House Doctor Contract
The firm’s first public sector project as Joy Squared Design, enabled by the SCALE Business Acceleration Grant, diversifies the project portfolio and opens doors for future public work.

Commercial Interiors: Bartlett Station
Multiple tenant fit-up studies and construction projects including various community non-profit organizations. 

Historic Renovation: Unitarian Church of Sharon
Including community process and planning for the renovation of this historic church  

SCALE Business Acceleration Grant Recipient: 

As a recipient of this grant by the City of Boston, Sharon and Trea worked alongside Calyptus Consulting on building in-house marketing and operations capacity to more effectively pursue public contracts.

The Completion of Many Projects: 

Renovation and Cambridge Historical Commission 2025 Preservation Award:  Harvey Street, with Homeowners Rehab.

New Construction, Multi-family housing:  Aileron Phase 1 (Homeownership), with Neighborhood of Affordable Housing (NOAH).

Renovation:  570 Warren Street, with Commonwealth Land Trust.

Renovation, Office Interiors:  52 Church Street, with Boston Local 26, local headquarters of the hotel workers’ trade union.

Renovation, multi-family housing:  Kem’s house rebuild.

Office interiors:  Boston Harbor Shipyard Marina Offices (main office)

Office interiors:  40 Washington Street (City of Chelsea Offices)

Renovation, Multi-family housing:  Interfaith Housing Deep Energy Retrofit

Renovation, Multi-family housing:  Windsor Street Cambridge

Staff Milestones:

Our team grew by seven new members, including Natalie Gabrielle, Claudia Paraschiv, Nick Weidermann, Shante Frank, Hannah Campbell, Ashley Rivas and our first Northeastern University Co-Op Student, Minh Nguyen. We’re also growing our expertise within our team, and this year Sharon achieved certification as a Certified Passive House Consultant, bring our total CPHCs in the office up to 3.
