The renovation of St. Paul’s Residence involved an extensive facility evaluation and planning process, resulting in a renovation of the historical exterior, as well as a number of other interventions.

The redesign resulted in an increased capacity of 22 lodging units and 2 family apartments, as well as selective replacement of primary building systems, and installation of a new elevator. The building also houses common living rooms, common kitchens, and support office space for onsite staff.

The project also received approvals from the Cambridge Historic Commission and the National Park Service for federal and state historic tax credits and all local approvals. The project was bid out through the MGL CH 149 competitive bidding public procurement process. The completed project will allow St. Paul’s to continue serving long into the future as a valuable, dignified home for some of Cambridge’s most disadvantaged residents.
