This thoughtful renovation of a former rectory was awarded the 2025 Preservation Award by the Cambridge Historical Commission. Originally containing 16 SRO units with shared bathrooms, the building was reconfigured into 12 private SRO units, each with its own bathroom and kitchenette.
The renovation restored key historical features, including a Palladian window and rooflines that had been altered in previous renovations. Additionally, the original siding color was uncovered and reinstated, giving the building a refreshed and historically accurate appearance.
Designed with both accessibility and comfort in mind, the building now includes a wheelchair-accessible ramp and a fully accessible ground-floor unit. A small social services office and project management office were also integrated into the design. Sustainability was prioritized with the project meeting Enterprise Green Communities standards. The building enjoys abundant natural light, creating a warm and welcoming environment for its residents.
